These days, the idea of "progressive culture" is largely associated with the acceptance of homosexuality. While there are certainly worse things that could befall a civilization, it is also easy to see how worse could come from too much sexual repression. There is little doubt that the existence of sexual restriction is a major contributor to the rise of Nazism in Europe. If more people were relaxed about sexuality, it would be easier to think straight and easier to resist the temptation of violence. Sexual repression has also been a big contribution to slavery and the Holocaust.
